ReachMyTeach Privacy Policy

Welcome to ReachMyTeach, the online service of RMT Tech LLC (“ReachMyTeach,” “we,” “our,” or “us”) to facilitate communication between teachers and students/families. This document (“Privacy Policy”) explains how ReachMyTeach uses information given to us by schools/districts and users and also the privacy of that information. Capitalized terms used but not defined herein shall have the respective meanings given to them in our terms of service.

By using our Service, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy

1. Collected Information and How We Use That Information

We receive demographic and contact data from schools and Users. This may include name, email address, phone number, class enrollment, current grade, school and/or district name, family relation (stepmother, father, etc), language spoken, and any other information provided by the school or by Users themselves.

When Users use the Service, we will keep records of activity, which include:

  1. Messages: Messages sent and received will be saved in our system. Statistics about these messages may be used to improve the Service over time.
  2. Usage data: We will keep track of logins and other user activity to provide usage statistics to schools and districts, as well as to improve the Service.
  3. Third party systems (including Google and other Single Sign On logins) will share with us limited data such as email, profile photo, and profile id. This will be stored in our system. You should always review, and if necessary, adjust your privacy settings on third-party websites and services before linking or connecting them to the Service. You may also unlink your third party account from the Service by adjusting your settings on the third party service.
  4. Student Data: ReachMyTeach will have access to student’s personal information as needed to provide our Service. We consider Student Data to be confidential and do not use such data for any purpose other than as strictly necessary to provide the Service. ReachMyTeach has access to Student Data only as provided by school or district administrators. 
  5. Direct communication: We may collect data through email and text communication with Users for the express purpose of running the Service.

If you disclose any person’s personal information to us or our partners, you represent that you have the authority to do so, including that you have any necessary written consents to do so. This includes any consents required from the parent or guardian of a minor whose information you disclose, including consents to permit us to use that information in accordance with this Privacy Policy. We are free to use any information that is not personal information (information that does not identify or relate to an individual) for any purpose as permitted by applicable law.

2. How We Use Cookies and Other Tracking Technology

We may automatically collect usage information when you visit our Service. The primary way we do this is through cookies. We use these cookies to remember your information to assist in the login process and page navigation. We also use these cookies to store your session while you are using our Service. We may also use images in emails sent to Users to track when emails are opened. This information is shared with the senders of that message to help them track how many people have read that message. We may also collect analytics data or use third-party analytics tools to measure usage trends for our Service. This analytics data is used to view anonymous aggregate trends about the Service’s use and is not viewed on an individual basis.

We do not use any collected information for advertising purposes, nor do we sell any of this information. Individual usage information is available to teachers and administrators of your school or district to track the effectiveness and use of the Service. We may also use this information to improve the Service. If you would like to opt out of the collection of this information, you can disable cookies and other tracking technology through the settings of your browser. 

3. Sharing of Your Personal Information

We may share your personal information with:

  1. Other Users with whom you choose to share data through our Service. This includes your school, other teachers or district administrators. If you are a parent or student, all contact information attached to your account is available to all teachers and administrators using our Service in your district.
  2. Other companies owned by or under common ownership as ReachMyTeach. These companies will use your personal information in the same way as we can under this policy.
  3. Third-party service providers that perform services on our behalf, in order to carry out their work for us, which may include, for example, billing, payments, service fulfillment, web hosting or providing analytic services. These service providers include:
  1. To the extent permitted by applicable law, other parties in connection with a ReachMyTeach merger, reorganization, change of control or similar proceedings if one of these events was to occur. 
  2. Third parties as required by law or subpoena. 
  3. Third parties if we reasonably believe that such action is necessary to comply with the law and the reasonable requests of law enforcement or to enforce our Terms of Service or to protect the security or integrity of our Service as allowed by applicable law.

4. Choices regarding your personal information

You can stop receiving email communications from us or from another User by clicking on the “unsubscribe link” provided in such communications or by changing your settings from within the Service. You may also opt out of receiving text messages from Users via the Services at any time by sending a text message back with the text “STOP” or by changing your settings from within the Service. You may not opt out of communications directly from the service such as login links, account verification and security notices.

We will retain your personal information for as long as necessary to provide the Service to you and your associated school or district. We may not be able to modify or delete your personal information in all circumstances. For example, information we collect in the course of providing the Service may be shared by you with another User (for instance a message between the two of you), or it may be shared with your school or district administrators. In these cases, this information belongs to all associated Users.

5. How we store and protect data

Your personal information may be stored and processed in the United States or in any other country in which ReachMyTeach or its partners or service providers maintain facilities. We may transfer information to a country that does not have the same data protection laws as your jurisdiction. You consent to the transfer of information to any country in which ReachMyTeach or its partners or service providers maintain facilities. In certain circumstances, courts or law enforcement agencies in other jurisdictions may be entitled to access information stored by the Service.

We care about the privacy and security of your personal information and all other information stored in Service. However, we cannot completely guarantee the security of our systems. If you have reason to believe that our Service is no longer secure, please notify us immediately at [email protected].

6. Children’s privacy

In accordance with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 (COPPA), we require you, your school or district, to obtain all student and parental consent required for us to store and use the personal information of all students who you connect to the Service. We will only use this information as strictly necessary for the functionality of the Service. If we learn we have collected personal information from a child under the age of 13 without the aforementioned consent, we will delete that information as quickly as possible after being notified internally or by customers. 

7. Third-Party Links and Services

Our Service may integrate with or contain links to other third party sites and services. We are not responsible for the practices employed by third party websites or services embedded in, linked to, linked from, or connected with the Service, and your interactions with any third-party website or service are subject to that third party’s own rules and policies.

Any links to third party services, whether part of a User’s Data or part of the Service itself, are not endorsed by ReachMyTeach. We are not responsible for the practices employed by third party websites or services connected with the Service, and your interactions with any third-party service are subject to that third party’s own rules and policies.

9. Modifications to this document

ReachMyTeach may modify or update this Privacy Policy to reflect the changes in our business and practices. When we change the Privacy Policy we will update the ‘last modified’ date at the top of this Privacy Policy. If we make changes that significantly affect your privacy protections we will notify you via the contact information associated with your account. When modifications are made, please stop using the Service unless you agree to the modifications.
